Xin Hwa Restaurant – Mandarin Oriental Jakarta

When Sunday is coming, then it’s a great time to start your last day in weekend with a great breakfast and lunch concept (brunch). Among many types of foods and restaurants, one of my favourite is to have a yum cha or dim sum as a mood booster on weekend.

There are so many Chinese restaurants in Jakarta that offer an All You Can Eat dim sum concept, even not just for weekend. One of the Chinese restaurants that I tried recently was Xin Hwa restaurant at Mandarin Oriental Jakarta. Specializing in Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine, the restaurant has an elegant, contemporary decor with a sophisticated ambience. Not only serving dimsum, Xin Hwa restaurant also offers an exceptional Chinese cuisine daily, and an all you can eat dim sum brunch every Sunday from 10:00am – 02:30pm

Savor braised seafood and bean curd broth as a starter, then move to a classic steamed dim sum such as steamed chicken feet in X.O. Sauce, chicken siew mai, shrimp dumplings (hakaw) and some selections of cheong fun roll. I love their hakaw as they are using whole prawn, not a chunk / small one like some other restaurants, but I don’t like the cheong fun roll as the skin was incredibly too thick.

Get into the next step, which are time for the deep fried one. Some of must try items are the shrimp dumplings stuffed with parmesan cheese which were lovely, and deep fried crispy spring rolls with shredded chicken, they were fresh, the skin was crunchy, the filling was nice but it was too little.

And don’t you every worry if you feel somethings missing if you only eating dim sum, as Xin Hwa restaurant also offers some selections of congee, fried rice with assorted seafood and Hong Kong style fried noodle. I tried the fried rice, and it was quite good, simple, fresh, and enough for 3-4 pax.

Overall, I like the dim sum in Xin Hwa, Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, the service was good, and the dim sum was quite good as well. To end your journey, simply order their selection of desserts such as chilled mango pudding, chilled grass jelly, or sweetened sago cream with seasonal fruits.
