Asparagus season is coming! Starting mid April until around mid of June, this seasonal vegetables especially the European white asparagus will be flown in directly from Europe. Perhaps some of you already notice dan many restaurants in Jakarta also participating to celebrate the asparagus season.
So lucky me that I had a chance to try this seasonal vegetables which being presented by the Scusa Chefs with classic Italian style. The white asparagus is different than the green and purple asparagus. White asparagus will contain more water, fiber and others nutrition, so no doubt that the white asparagus is good for your health and digestion system. That moment, Scusa team has prepared a set menu inspired by the European white asparagus to tantalise my taste buds.
Located on the second floor of InterContinental Jakarta MidPlaza hotel, Scusa prides itself in serving authentic Italian cuisine and has an extensive variety of fine wines and premium spirit with a stylish modern yet casual atmosphere. There’s also an open kitchen, and several table right in front of the open kitchen, perfect if you love to see how chefs are preparing the beautiful dishes for you =)
So without waiting any longer, I look at the menu and see what they’ve arrange for my lunch. Scusa has created a sampler set menu for lunch on that day, so that I can try some of their items.
For the starter, they’ve prepared Steamed white asparagus with Paris ham, boiled potato and hollaindaise sauce. The white asparagus was perfectly steamed and delicious. It was totally fresh and juicy, with a great hollaindaise sauce to be mixed with the boiled potato and Paris ham.
The second course was the time for Creamy white asparagus soup. It was nicely prepared and the soup was creamy enough without losing the real taste of the white asparagus, and there’s a parmigiano reggiano fritters which perfectly match with the soup and blend in your mouth.
Move to the main one, I have to face this three beautiful dishes, and they are Beef tenderloin with grilled white asparagus, Steamed sea bass fillet with white asparagus, and lemon caper berry, and White asparagus risotto with parmesan and truffle scented.
My priority was to try the Beef tenderloin first which comes with grilled asparagus, creamy baked potatoes and tarragon bearnaise sauce. The tenderloin was cooked until medium, and the seasoning was well absorbed. The grilled white asparagus in here is not totally grilled, since the asparagus will lose it’s water, the purpose of grilling here is to add a different taste, and for marking purpose. The last but not the least, I have to admit that the creamy baked potatoes in here was totally stunning, crunch on the skin, and creamy on the inside, me gusta!
The white asparagus risotto may looks very simple, but it was not as it look like. The risotto was quiet promising with light cheesy taste to ensure the original taste of the white asparagus which came in chunk size and mixed with the risotto, well done!
The last one is the Steamed sea bass, which looks great. However compare to the other’s the sea bass was not really wow-ing, but overall it was good and fresh. Steamed in time, with good lemon caper berry dressing.
So that’s it! That’s was my journey of exploring the European white asparagus at Scusa, InterContinental Jakarta MidPlaza.
